The elections to the 16th Lok Sabha were held in 2014. NDA led by BJP emerged victorious in the elections. With the support of Congress, the United Front formed two governments at the centre from 1996 to 1998. One Under H.D. Deve Gowda and the other under I.K. Gujral Lok Sabha elections were conducted in 2004, resulting in victory for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by the Congress.
