Question:

The perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle. If width of the rectangle is 14 cm and area of the square is 625 cm2, then find the area of the rectangle.

Options:

404 cm2

414 cm2

504 cm2

514 cm2

Correct Answer:

504 cm2

Explanation:

The perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle.

We have,

Area of the square = 625

So, side2 = 625

side = 25

Width of the rectangle = 14 cm

= 4 × side = 2 (l + b)

= 4 × 25 = 2 (l + 14)

= 50 = l + 14

l = 36

Now the area of the rectangle = l × b

= 36 × 14 = 504cm2
