Many fungi belonging to the genera Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton are responsible for ringworms which is one of the most common infectious diseases in man.

Wuchereria (W. bancrofti and W. malayi), the filarial worms cause a slowly developing chronic inflammation of the organs in which they live for many years, usually the lymphatic vessels of the lower limbs and the disease is called elephantiasis or filariasis.

Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan parasite that primarily resides in the large intestine of humans and is responsible for causing amoebiasis, also known as amoebic dysentery. Amoebiasis is characterized by various symptoms, including constipation, abdominal pain, and cramps. Additionally, infected individuals may pass stools that contain excess mucus and blood clots.

The common cold is a highly contagious viral infection that primarily affects the nose and respiratory passage but not the lungs. One group of viruses known as rhinoviruses is responsible for causing the common cold.
