A 600-metre-long train is running at a speed of 48 km/h. It crosses a platform completely in 4 minutes and 30 seconds. What is the length of the platform?

Options:

1800 m

3600 m

2400 m

3000 m

Correct Answer:

3000 m

Explanation:

Total time taken = 4 minutes 30 seconds = 270 seconds

Speed = 48 km/h

48 km/h = 48 × \(\frac{5}{18}\) = \(\frac{40}{3}\) m/sec  ----(1)

Total distance traveled = 600 m + length pf bridge

We know , Total  Distance = Speed ×  Time

= \(\frac{40}{3}\) × 270 = 3600 m

From 1 ,

600 m + length pf bridge = 3600 m

Length pf bridge = 3600 - 600 = 3000 m
