National Front came to power for the first time in 1989 under the leadership of Mr V.P. Singh as the Prime Minister of India. It was supported by the Left Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

United Front came to power for the first time in 1996 under the leadership of Mr. H.D. Deve Gowda as the Prime Minister. It was supported by Congress.

From May 1998 to June 1999, a coalition government was established, and subsequently, it was re-elected in October 1999. Throughout this period, Atal Behari Vajpayee held the position of Prime Minister for both terms of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments. Notably, the government that materialized in 1999 successfully completed its entire term in office.

United Progressive Alliance came to power for the first time in May 2004  under the leadership of Mr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India. It is led by the Congress Party. It again came to power in 2009.
