Question:

Read the poem and answer the following questions.

The crocodile, with cunning smile, sat in the dentist’s chair.
He said, “Right here and everywhere my teeth require repair.”
The dentist’s face was turning white. He quivered, quaked and shook.
He muttered, “I suppose I’m going to have to take a look.”
“I want you”, Crocodile declared, “to do the back ones first.
The molars at the very back are easily the worst.”
He opened wide his massive jaws. It was a fearsome sight—
At least three hundred pointed teeth, all sharp and shining white.
The dentist kept himself well clear. He stood two yards away.
He chose the longest probe he had to search out the decay.
“I said to do the back ones first!” the Crocodile called out.
“You’re much too far away, dear sir, to see what you’re about.
To do the back ones properly you’ve got to put your head
Deep down inside my great big mouth,” the grinning Crocky said.
The poor old dentist wrung his hands and, weeping in despair,
He cried, “No no! I see them all extremely well from here!”
Just then, in burst a lady, in her hands a golden chain.
She cried, “Oh Croc, you naughty boy, you’re playing tricks again!”
“Watch out!” the dentist shrieked and started climbing up the wall.
“He’s after me! He’s after you! He’s going to eat us all!”
“Don’t be a twit,” the lady said, and flashed a gorgeous smile.
“He’s harmless. He’s my little pet, my lovely crocodile.”

Which of the following trait is not exhibited in the poem?

Options:

Rhyming Couplet

Creative Character Description

Imaginative situations

None of the above

Correct Answer:

None of the above

Explanation:

THE CORRECT ANSWER IS OPTION 4 - None of the above

  1. Rhyming Couplet
Explanation: The poem is structured in a way that many lines rhyme in pairs, creating a rhythmic and lyrical quality typical of rhyming couplets. For example, lines like "smile" and "repair" or "white" and "shake" show this trait. Therefore, this trait is indeed exhibited in the poem.

  2. Creative Character Description
Explanation: The characters in the poem, especially the crocodile and the dentist, are described in imaginative ways. The crocodile is portrayed as cunning and mischievous, sitting in a dentist's chair and requesting dental work in a comical manner. The dentist's fear and hesitance add to this creative portrayal. Thus, this trait is also present in the poem.

  3. Imaginative Situations
Explanation: The entire scenario of a crocodile needing dental work and the interactions between the crocodile, dentist, and the lady with a golden chain are imaginative and whimsical. The absurdity of a crocodile in a dentist's office is a creative and fantastical situation, which is a hallmark of imaginative literature. Therefore, this trait is also exhibited in the poem.

  4. None of the above
Explanation: This option implies that all previous traits are present in the poem. Since we have established that the poem does exhibit rhyming couplets, creative character descriptions, and imaginative situations, this option is correct as all the listed traits are indeed present in the poem.

Final Answer: None of the above is the correct option, as all the mentioned traits are exhibited in the poem.
