Question:

Which one of the following is not an example of homogenisation in the global cultural flows?

Options:

Starbucks

Mc Donalds

Haldiram

Coca Cola

Correct Answer:

Haldiram

Explanation:

The correct answer is option (3) - Haldiram

Haldiram's is an Indian sweets, snacks and restaurant company headquartered in Noida. The company has manufacturing plants in a wide variety of locations such as Nagpur, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hooghly, Rudrapur and Noida.

Starbucks, Mc Donalds and Coca Cola are Global brands and an example of homogenisation in the global cultural flows.

The cultural effect of globalization leads to the fear that this process poses a threat to cultures in the world. It does so because globalization leads to the rise of a uniform culture or what is called cultural homogenization. The rise of a uniform culture is not the emergence of a global culture.

While cultural homogenization is an aspect of globalisation, the same process also generates precisely the opposite effect. It leads to each culture becoming more different and distinctive.  This phenomenon is called cultural heterogenization.
