Question:

In an election, two candidates participated. 20% of voters didn't cast their votes. 12.5% of voters of casting votes declared invalid and the winner gets 60% of the valid votes and won by 5600 votes. Find total number of voters.

Options:

50000

40000

45000

60000

Correct Answer:

40000

Explanation:

ATQ,

⇒ i) Cast votes = 80% of Total votes

⇒ ii) Valid voter = 87.5% of Cast votes

⇒ iii) Winner votes = 60% of Valid votes

⇒ iv) Winner won by = (60 - 40)% = 20% of Valid votes

Now,

⇒ Total votes × 80% × 87.5% × (60 - 40)% = 5600

⇒ Total votes × \(\frac{4}{5}\) × \(\frac{7}{8}\) × \(\frac{1}{5}\) = 5600

⇒ Total votes  = \(\frac{5600 × 5 × 2 × 5}{7}\)

⇒ Total votes = 40000
