Question:

A rope is wound around a hollow cylinder of mass 3 kg and radius 40 cm. What is the angular acceleration of the cylinder if the rope is pulled with a force of 30 N?

Options:

5 m/s2

25 m/s2

0.25 rad/s2

25 rad/s2

Correct Answer:

25 rad/s2

Explanation:

\(\tau\) = F × R

and

\(\tau\) = I \(\alpha\)

F x R =  I \(\alpha\)

\(\alpha\) = \(\frac{F × R}{I}\)

On substituting values

\(\alpha\) =\(\frac{30×40×10^{-2}}{3×40×40×10^{-4}}\)

 \(\alpha\) = 25 rad/s2
