Lok Adalats may be organized by any State Authority, District Authority, Supreme Court Legal Services Committee, High Court Legal Services Committee, or, where applicable, Taluk Legal Services Committee at such intervals and locations as it deems appropriate. When the parties to the case agree to do so or one of the parties requests that the case be referred to Lok Adalat, the case may be referred. The Parliament has made certain amendments in Legal Services Authorities Act by the Legal Services Authorities (Amendments) Act, 2002. With this amendment, a number of changes introduced in the Legal Services Act, 1987, most notably the creation of ‘Permanent Lok Adalats’ to resolve disputes concerning public utility services at pre-litigation state. |
