Question:

A solid metallic hemisphere of radius 6.3 cm is melted and recast into a right circular cylinder of radius 9 cm. What is the height (in cm, correct to one decimal place) of the cylinder?

Options:

1.9

2.7

2.5

2.1

Correct Answer:

2.1

Explanation:

We know that,

Volume of cylinder = πr2h

Given that,

Radius of hemisphere = 6.3 cm

Radius of cylinder = 9 cm

Volume of hemisphere = \(\frac{2}{3}\)× πr3= \(\frac{2}{3}\)× π × (6.3)3

Volume of cylinder = πh × (9)2

Then,

= \(\frac{2}{3}\)× π × 6.33 = πh × 92

= h = 2.058 = 2.1
