Question:

The population of a city increased by 30%in the first year and decreased by 15% in the next year. If the present population is 11,050 then the population 2 years ago was:

Options:

10,000

99,500

99,000

10,050

Correct Answer:

10,000

Explanation:

30% =  \(\frac{(3)}{10}\) , 15% = \(\frac{(3)}{20}\)

Let Population two years ago = 100x

ATQ ,

100x × \(\frac{(13)}{10}\) × \(\frac{(17)}{20}\) = 11050

 100x = 11050 × \(\frac{(10)}{13}\) × \(\frac{(20)}{17}\)

100x = 10,000

So , Population two years ago = 10,000
