Question:

If mean of the numbers 2, (p+1), 8, 19, 16, 3 and p is 9, then find the mode of the numbers.

Options:

2

8

16

19

Correct Answer:

8

Explanation:

mean of the numbers 2, (p+1), 8, 19, 16, 3 and p  =  9

Total numbers = 7

\(\frac{ 2 + P + 1 + 8 + 19 + 16 + 3 + P }{7}\) = 9

2 + P + 1 + 8 + 19 + 16 + 3 = 63

2P = 63 - 49

2p = 14

p = 7

So, All numbers are

2, (p+1), 8, 19, 16, 3 and p

2, (7+1), 8, 19, 16, 3 and 7

2, 8 , 8, 19, 16, 3 and 7

 occurrences of 8 is two.

So, mode = 8
