Meiotic cell division |
The formation of a microspore tetrad (pollen grains) is a result of meiotic cell division. Meiosis is a specialized type of cell division that occurs in the cells of the sporogenous tissue within the microsporangium. During meiosis, the pollen mother cell undergoes two rounds of division, resulting in the formation of four haploid microspores. These microspores are arranged in a cluster called a tetrad. Each microspore within the tetrad has the potential to develop into a mature pollen grain. The process of meiosis ensures the production of genetically diverse pollen grains that are essential for sexual reproduction in plants. |
