Question:

The sides of a triangle are 8cm, 12cm and 16cm. What is the area of the triangle?

Options:

$24\sqrt{15}$

$6\sqrt{15}$

$8\sqrt{15}$

$1\sqrt{15}$

Correct Answer:

$1\sqrt{15}$

Explanation:

We have three sides of a triangle =

Let a = 8 cm

= b = 12 cm

= c = 16 cm

Semi Perimeter(s) = \(\frac{(a + b + c)}{2}\) = \(\frac{(8 + 12 + 16)}{2}\) = 18

The area of the triangle = \(\sqrt {18 (18-8)( 18-12)( 18-16) }\)

= \(\sqrt {18 (10)( 6)( 2) }\) = \(\sqrt {2160 }\) = 12\(\sqrt {15}\)
