Explanation:

Speed = \(\frac{ Distance}{ Time}\)

Distance= Speed x Time

Distance travelled with 40 km/hr speed = 40 x 2.5 = 100km

Distance travelled with 60 km/hr speed = 60 x 2.5 = 150km

Average speed = \(\frac{ \text{Total distance travelled}}{\text{Total time taken}}\)

Average speed = \(\frac{\text{100 + 150}}{\text{2.5 + 2.5}}\)

Average speed = \(\frac{\text{250}}{\text{5}}\)

Average speed = 50 km/hr
