The length and the breadth of a rectangular cardboard are 40 cm and 35 cm, respectively. If the biggest possible square is cut out from this cardboard, what is the area of the remaining pan of the cardboard?

We know that,

Area of a square = (Side)² 

Area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth

We have,

Length = 40 cm

Breadth = 35 cm

Area of the cardboard = 40 × 35 = 1400 cm²

Because the breadth = 35 cm

So, the maximum measure of each side of the square = 35 cm

The area of the square = 35² = 1225 cm²

Now, the area of the remaining part = 1400 - 1225 = 175 cm²
