India held the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.

India assumed the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023. The New Delhi Summit in September of 2023 marked a historic occasion, with the participation of 43 Heads of Delegations, the largest ever in G20 history. Established in 1999 in response to the Asian financial crisis, the G20 originally served as a platform for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to address global economic and financial issues. Its significance escalated after the 2007 global economic downturn, leading to its elevation to a forum for Heads of State/Government in 2009, becoming the foremost platform for international economic cooperation. The annual G20 Summit operates under a rotating Presidency. Until 2023, the G20 consisted of 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union. Notably, at the Delhi Summit, the African Union, representing 55 African countries, was granted full membership akin to the representation of the EU. Additionally, India extended invitations to Nigeria, Egypt, and Mauritius as 'Guest Countries' at the G20 summit. The overarching theme of India's G20 Presidency, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" or "One Earth · One Family · One Future," originates from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. This theme underscores the interconnectedness and value of all life forms—human, animal, plant, and microorganisms—on Earth and beyond.

Brazil is the host of the G20 in 2024. They hold the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024.
South Africa will be the host of the G20 in 2025.  They take over the G20 Presidency from Brazil on December 1, 2024.
