Question:

The income of Raju is 25% more than that of Manju. Raju got a 25% rise in his income, and Manju got a 40% rise in his income, the percentage increase in their combined incomes is:

Options:

51.72%

31.67%

22.43%

41.26%

Correct Answer:

31.67%

Explanation:

Given :-

income of Raju is 25% more than that of Manju

25 % = \(\frac{5}{4}\)

Ratio of income of Raju & Manju = 5 : 4

Let income of Raju = 500 & Income of Raju = 400

New income of Raju = 500 + \(\frac{1}{4}\) ×  500 = 625

New income of Manju = 400 + \(\frac{2}{5}\) × 400 = 560

New combined income = 625 + 560 = 1185

Increase in combined income = 1185 - 900 = 285

Required percentage = \(\frac{285}{900}\) × 100 = 31.67%
