Question:

The age of a father is thrice the age of his daughter. Ten years ago, his age was five times his daughter's age. Find the present age of the father.

Options:

50 years

60 years

45 years

40 years

Correct Answer:

60 years

Explanation:

The ratio of father and son = 1 : 3

Ten years ago the age = x - 10 : 3x - 10

Actual ratio ten years ago =

\(\frac{x - 10}{3x - 10}\) = \(\frac{1}{5}\)

= 5x - 50 = 3x - 10

2x = 40

x = 20

The present age of father = 3x = 3 × 20 = 60
