The town of Mohenjo-Daro, also called the ‘Mound of the Dead’ is situated on the west bank of the Indus River in Pakistan (Sindh). The site was discovered by R.D. Banerji in 1922 and was later excavated by German and Italian archaeologists. Though Harappa was the first site to be discovered, Mohenjo-Daro gained greater recognition as it was preserved much better unlike Harappa, which was destroyed by the brick robbers.
