Question:

The average of  n numbers is 37 . If 80% of the numbers are increased by 8 each and the remaining numbers are decreased by 12 each, then what is the average of the numbers, so obtained?

Options:

44

41

45

39

Correct Answer:

41

Explanation:

80% = \(\frac{4}{5}\), Let n = 5, 80% of 5 = 4

80% of n i.e. 4 is Increased by 8 each

So total increment = 8 × 4 = 32

Remaining 1 is decreased by 12

So total decrement = 1 × -10 = -12

Total variation = 32 -12 = 20

This 20 is equally distributed in between  5 = \(\frac{20}{5}\) = 4

New Average = 37 + 4 = 41
