Question:

Calculate Mode from the following data.

Class Interval No of Children
5-10 4
10-15 5
15-20 3
20-25 2
25-30 6
30-35 7
35-40 3
Options:

32

33

30

31

Correct Answer:

31

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option 4: 31

Class Interval No of Children
5-10 4
10-15 5
15-20 3
20-25 2
25-30 6
30-35 7
35-40 3

The Modal class is (30-35) as it has the highest frequency of 7.

Mode = L + [D1/ (D1 + D2)] * h

Where,

L = lower limit of the modal class

D1 = difference between the frequency of the modal class and the frequency of the class preceding the modal class (ignoring signs).

D2 = difference between the frequency of the modal class and the frequency of the class succeeding the modal class (ignoring signs).

h = class interval of the distribution.

Putting the values in the formula of mode,

D1= 7-6= 1

D2= 7-3 = 4

h= 5

Mode = 30 + [1/ (1 + 4)] * 5

        = 30 + 5/5

       = 31
