Question:

The population of a country has been growing at a rate of 4% every decade. If the projected population of the country in 2030 is given as 1,58,18,400, what was the population of the country in 2000?

Options:

1,40,62,000

1,40,65,200

1,40,56,200

1,40,62,500

Correct Answer:

1,40,62,500

Explanation:

Population of a country has been growing at a rate of 4% every decade i.e. every 10 years

Let population iin 2000 year = X

X × \(\frac{104}{100}\) × \(\frac{104}{100}\) × \(\frac{104}{100}\) = 15818400

X × \(\frac{26}{25}\) × \(\frac{26}{25}\) × \(\frac{26}{25}\) = 15818400

X = 15818400 × \(\frac{25}{26}\) × \(\frac{25}{26}\) × \(\frac{25}{26}\)

= 1,40,62,500

So, population in year 2000 is 1,40,62,500
