Question:

The total number of students in section P and Q of a class is 150. The number of students in section P is 30 more than that of section Q  . The average score of the students in Q, in a test, is 50% more than that of students in P. If the average score of all  the students in the class is 48 , then what is the average score of the students in P?

Options:

36

55

40

60

Correct Answer:

40

Explanation:

 P + Q = 150

P = 30 + Q

P = 90 , Q = 60

50% = \(\frac{1}{2}\)

Average  marks ⇒ P = 2x, Q = 3x

2x × 90 + 3x × 60 = 150 × 48

 360x = 150 × 48

  x = \(\frac{150 × 48}{360}\) = 20

Average score of students in P = 20 × 2 = 40
