(B) Lapis lazuli (I) A blue-coloured stone

Carnelian was of a beautiful red color stone from which many beads were made in the Harappan culture.

Lapis lazuli was a blue stone that was apparently very highly valued and was procured from Shortughai (Afghanistan) . Lothal was another such site that was near sources of carnelian (from Bharuch in Gujarat).

Nageshwar and Balakot, both settlements are near the coast. These were specialised centres for making shell objects – including bangles, ladles and inlay – which were taken to other settlements.

Specialized drills have been found at Chanhudaro, Lothal and more recently at Dholavira.
