Question:

A vessel contains a mixture of acid and water in the ratio 13 : 4. Now 15.5 liters of mixture is taken out from the mixture. After that 1.5 liters pure water and 3 liters acid is added to the mixture. If resultant mixture contains 25% water, then what was the initial quantity of mixture in the vessel before the replacement?

Options:

34

41

51

49.5

Correct Answer:

41

Explanation:

The ratio after removing 15.5 ltr.= 13 : 4

25 %= \(\frac{1}{4}\)  = In 4R ⇒ 1R is water and 3R is milk.

ATQ,

⇒ \(\frac{13R + 3}{4R + 1.5}\) = \(\frac{3}{1}\)

⇒ 13R +3 = 12R + 4.5

⇒ 1R = 1.5

Hence,

Initial Qty. of mixture was = (13 + 4)R + 15.5 = (17× 1.5) + 15.5 = 41Ltrs
