Question:

The ratio of the sum of the salaries of A and B to the difference of their salaries is 11:1 and the ratio of the sum of the salaries of B and C to the difference of their salaries is also 11 : 1. If A’s salary is the highest and C’s lowest then what is B’s salary (in Rs) given total of all their salaries is Rs.1,82,000?

Options:

80000

60000

72000

50000

Correct Answer:

60000

Explanation:

  A + B   :   A - B

   11       :     1   ---(I)

  B + C   :   B - C      (A > B > C)

    11      :      1   ---(II)

Solving eq, I.

2A = 12 R₁ or A = 6R₁

B = 5R₁

Solving eq.(II)

2B = 12R₂ or B = 6R₂

C =  5R₂

Equating the value of B

5R₁ = 6R₂

R₁ = 6, R₂ = 5

So,  A  :  B  :  C = 36 : 30 : 25

Given, A + B + C = 182000

91R = 182000 or R = 2000

B = 30 x 2000 = 60000
