Question:

In a test (+5) marks are given for every correct answer and (−2) marks are given for every incorrect answer. Jay answered all the questions and scored (−12) marks, though he got 4 correct answers. How many of his answers were INCORRECT?

Options:

8

32

16

20

Correct Answer:

16

Explanation:

Marks for each correct answer =  5

Attempted correct answer = 4

Marks for each wrong answer = - 2

Total marks scored = -12

Let, the total questions be y

Correct = 4

Incorrect = y - 4

4 x 5 + (- 2)(y - 4) = - 12

2y - 8 = 32

y = 20

Total incorrect answer = y - 4 = 20 - 4 = 16
