Question:

Find x if cos x = $-\frac{1}{2}$

Options:

$\frac{3\pi}{2}$

$\frac{2\pi}{3}$

$\frac{5\pi}{2}$

$\frac{4\pi}{3}$

Correct Answer:

$\frac{2\pi}{3}$

Explanation:

cos x = - \(\frac{1 }{2}\)

We know, cos 60º = \(\frac{1 }{2}\)

and 60º = \(\frac{π}{3}\)

but in question cosx is negative . So,

x = π - \(\frac{π}{3}\)

= \(\frac{2π}{3}\)
