Question:

Which of the following is the largest dental tissue?

Options:

Dentin

Pulp

Enamel

Root

Correct Answer:

Dentin

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (1)- Dentin

The largest dental tissue is Dentin. Dentin is a hard tissue that forms the bulk of the tooth structure and is located beneath the enamel and cementum. It provides support to the enamel and forms the main part of the tooth's crown and root.

A thick dentin layer forms the bulk of dental mineralized dental tissues. Dentin is capped by a crown made of highly mineralized and protective enamel, and in the root, it is covered by cementum, a structure implicated in the attachment of the teeth to the bony socket. Teeth contain in their central parts dental pulps, which are usually non-mineralized. This soft connective tissue also contains nerves and a vascular network connected with the surrounding tissues, the periodontal ligament and the bony socket.

Enamel: It is a calcified tissue and is the hardest substance in the human body, composed of hydroxyapatite crystals (calcium and phosphate ions).

Dental Pulp: this is a soft tissue forms the tooth’s inner core, containing the blood vessels and nerves.

Cementum: It forms a tough, protective covering of the root of the tooth, anchoring in the jaw bone .
