Question:

What is the area of a triangle whose sides measure 5 cm, 6 cm and 7 cm?

Options:

10.9797 cm2

12.8484 cm2

16.4545 cm2

14.6969 cm2

Correct Answer:

14.6969 cm2

Explanation:

We know that,

Area of a triangle = \(\sqrt {s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) }\)

The three sides measure 5 cm, 6 cm and 7 cm

Semi perimeter = \(\frac{5 + 6 + 7}{2}\) = 9

Put them in the above formula,

Area of a triangle = \(\sqrt {9(9-5)(9-6)(9-7) }\)

 = \(\sqrt {9(4)(3)(2) }\) = \(\sqrt {216}\) = 14.6969 cm2
