Question:

If $7 x+11 y=1$ and $8 x+13 y=2$, then the value of $x$ and $y$ are:

Options:

$-5,3$

$7,2$

$-3,2$

$-3,5$

Correct Answer:

$-3,2$

Explanation:

7x + 11y = 1....... (1)

8x + 13y = 2 ....... (2)

Multiplying Equation (1) and Equation (2) by 8 and 7 resepectively, we have

56x + 88y = 8 and 56x + 91y = 14

Subtracting the second equation from the first, we get

-3y = -6,

y = 2

Now put the value of y in either 1 or 2

We are putting in 1

7x + 11y = 1

7x = -21

X = -3
