Options:

Ringworm disease

Malaria

Elephantiasis

Ascariasis

Correct Answer:

Elephantiasis

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (3)-  Elephantiasis

Wuchereria bancrofti and Wuchereria malayi are types of filarial worms that can cause a condition known as elephantiasis or filariasis. These worms live in the lymphatic vessels of the lower limbs, as well as in the genital organs, leading to chronic inflammation and damage over many years. The adult worms reside in the lymphatic vessels, which are a part of the lymphatic system. They can cause obstruction and damage to these vessels, leading to the accumulation of lymph fluid in various parts of the body, particularly the limbs and genital area. The transmission of these pathogens occurs through the bite of female mosquito vectors.

Many fungi belonging to the genera Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton are responsible for ringworms which is one of the most common infectious diseases in man.

Plasmodium, the parasite that causes malaria, completes its life cycle in two hosts. The asexual phase of the life cycle occurs in the human host, while the sexual phase occurs in the female Anopheles mosquito.

Ascaris, the common round worm and Wuchereria, the filarial worm, are some of the helminths which are known to be pathogenic to man. Ascaris, an intestinal parasite causes ascariasis.
