Why is air pollution widespread in urban areas than in rural areas?

In India, air pollution is widespread in urban areas than in rural areas because vehicles are the major contributors and urban areas consists of higher number of vehicles. Higher concentration of industries and thermal power plants combining with increased human activities resulted in widespread pollution in urban areas.
