i. Growth hormone somatotropin regulates the growth of the body as it stimulates protein synthesis , metabolism and breakdown of glycogen to stimulate cellular and tissue growth. ii. Thyroid stimulating hormone promotes the uptake of iodine by the thyroid glands and stimulates the growth and synthesis of thyroid hormones which are thyroxine and triiodothyronine. iii. Oxytocin is a neurohormone released from posterior pituitary which initiate the ejection of milk from mammary ducts by contracting the myoepithelial walls of mammary glands and uterine contraction to induce labor during pregnancy. iv. FSH helps with the development of graafian follicles and secretion of estrogens from those growing follicles. In males,it helps in spermatogenesis and induces sertoli cells to release some factors that help in conversion of spermatids to spermatozoa. |
