Question:

If (x + 3, 4 – y) = (1, 7), then (x – 3, 4 + y) is equal to

Options:

(–2, –3)

(–5,1)

(3, 4)

None of these

Correct Answer:

(–5,1)

Explanation:

(x + 3, 4 – y) = (1, 7) ⇒ x + 3 = 1, 4 – y = 7

⇒ x = 1 – 3 = –2, y = 4 –7 = –3

∴ (x − 3, 4 + y) = (−2 −3, 4 − 3) = (−5, 1)

Hence (2) is the correct answer.
