Question:

The length of the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is 37 cm and the length of one of its other two sides is 12 cm. What is the area of the triangle?

Options:

222 cm2

204 cm2

216 cm2

210 cm2

Correct Answer:

210 cm2

Explanation:

We know that,

Area of Triangle = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × Base × Height

Hypotenuse2 = Base2 + Perpendicular2

We have,

Hypotenuse = 37 cm

Length of one side = 12 cm

Put these values in the formula given above,

Let the another side = s

372 = 122 + s2

s2 =1369 – 144 = 1225

s = 35cm

So, Area of Triangle = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × 35 × 12 = 210cm2
