What is the difference (correct up to two decimal places) between the mean and the median of the number of the children?

Options:

0.26

0.28

0.27

0.25

Correct Answer:

0.27

Explanation:

Total number of household = 8 + 7 + 3 + 8 + 4 = 30

Total number of children = 0 × 8 + 1 × 7 + 2 × 3 + 3 × 8 + 4 × 4

= 0 + 7 + 6 + 24 + 16

= 53

Mean = \(\frac{53 }{30}\) = 1.77

As Total number of household = 30 , Which is even number .

So , Median = \(\frac{(n/2)th + (n/2 + 1 )th }{2}\)

= \(\frac{15th + 16th }{2}\)

= \(\frac{1 + 2 }{2}\)

= 1.5

Required difference b/w mean and median = 1.77 - 1.5 = 0.27
