The data given below presents number of households corresponding to the number of children residing there in.
What is the difference (correct up to two decimal places) between the mean and the median of the number of the children? |
0.26 0.28 0.27 0.25 |
0.27 |
Total number of household = 8 + 7 + 3 + 8 + 4 = 30 Total number of children = 0 × 8 + 1 × 7 + 2 × 3 + 3 × 8 + 4 × 4 = 0 + 7 + 6 + 24 + 16 = 53 Mean = \(\frac{53 }{30}\) = 1.77 As Total number of household = 30 , Which is even number . So , Median = \(\frac{(n/2)th + (n/2 + 1 )th }{2}\) = \(\frac{15th + 16th }{2}\) = \(\frac{1 + 2 }{2}\) = 1.5 Required difference b/w mean and median = 1.77 - 1.5 = 0.27 |
