Question:

A trader sells two articles for ₹9520 each, one at a profit of 12% and the other at a loss of 15%. His overall percentage loss (correct to one decimal place) is:

Options:

4.4

3.1

3.4

3.8

Correct Answer:

3.4

Explanation:

Total SP of both articles = 2 × 9520 = 19040

CP of first articles = 9520 × \(\frac{100}{112}\) = 8500

CP of second articles = 9520 × \(\frac{100}{85}\) = 11200

Total CP of both articles = 8500 + 11200 = 19,700

Loss = 19700 – 19040 = 660

Loss percentage = \(\frac{660}{19700}\) × 100 = 3.4%
